The economy

Sir,—lnflation is the Government’s undeclared tax. To balance this year’s Budget would cost every man. woman and child in the country about $7OO each of extra taxation. Because the Government is unwilling to admit that this is the true cost of its disastrous spending policies, it sets the actual declared tax take at an artificially low level, and collects most of the balance by inflating the currency. The inflation tax hits everybody. There is a limited amount of wealth to be shared round: money represents a claim on that wealth. If, like the Government, you are in the fortunate position of being able to print your own money, your own share of the total wealth must increase, whilst that of others inevitably decreases. We, the voters, are those “others,” and it is time to vote for candidates who will oppose this dishonesty. But are there any such candidates?—Yours, etc..
