Bus services

Sir,—The Labour Party’s Shadow Minister of Transport, Mr F. M. Colman, has called for the Government to help urban transport authorities to relieve some of the burden of supporting city bus services. If central government really set out to boost urban public transport, so to conserve non-re-newable energy resources, to reduce city air pollution and lessen traffic congestion, it would ultimately gain public support. Yet politicians seemingly do not care to stress the advantages to the nation of more people using publictransport. The cost of oil to the

nation shows . plainly that worth-while savings in petrol should and could be made if more people used city buses for commuting to work and other similar journeys—Yours, etc., .
