Refinery work for $8.5M approved

PA Whangarei The ‘'all clear” on w'ork worth §8.5 million on a tank “farm" for the Marsden Point oil refinery expansion was given to three Whangarei firms yesterday. Whangarei Engineering and Construction. Ltd. Culham Engineering. Ltd, and Thorburn and Robinson. Ltd. w’on a sub-contract to build 16 big steel tanks for the refinery in August, but were asked to suspend work on them by the main tank contractor. Chicago Bridge and Iron Company. About 7000 tonnes of steel plate began arriving in the firm’s yards yesterdav and work began. Culham won the first contract to build four complete tanks and now shares in the contract to build 16 more.

It w’ill build the tops and bottoms of the 16 tanks. W.E.C.O. w’ill roll the plate for the sides and Thornburn and Robinson will build the roof structures and other equipment.
