Blind pupil wins eight prizes
PA Auckland A blind seventh-former, Jonathan McKeown, aged 18, has won eight prizes, including the prestigious Spooner Cup for the best all-round pupil, at Auckland Grammar School. They included prizes for applied mathematics, French, music, and history, the language and speech shields, and the gold merit award. Jonathan McKeown said he was "more ambitious than most” and said he hoped, at one stage, to be the school dux ahead of the other 69 pupils in his form. “But I am very proud and grateful for what I have ended up with,” he said.
