Search for plane in lake called off?
PA Rotorua The search for a light plane which crashed into Lake Taupo on November 6 may be abandoned until after Christmas. The salvage team has spent most of this week using video cameras to try to find the aircraft, which crashed into the lake near the Horomatangi Reef, about 15km south of Taupo. The salvager, Mr H. Weeks, of Wanganui, said the search would be called off, probably until after Christmas, while other jobs were attended to. He said the search had been “fairly difficult.” The depth of the water in the area covered had varied from 110 to 130 metres, and there were many rocks on the bottom. The team will discuss its return date with the Inspector of Air Accidents, Mr D. Graham, who is looking into the crash.
