Post Office work halted

PA Wellington Work on the eloek tower of Nelson's new Chief Post Office would stop until the building's legal standing is resolved, said the Minister of Works and Development (Mr W. L. Young) yesterday.

His announcement resulted from a High Court ruling that the new complex was unlawful because it did not comply with the height restrictions and car-parking requirements in the city's district scheme.

"In my opinion there are aspects of the decision which justify an appeal, and leave to appeal to the Court of Appeal is being sought," Mr Young said.
