Kart lap record set
Graham Harrison (Auckland) trimmed 0.5 s off the lap record to highlight the New Zealand road kart championships at Ruapuna on Saturday. Harrison's average speed for the lap was 82 miles an hour, and his lap time was 43.95. Harrison went on to win the classic race of the day, the 250c.c. superkart Grand Prix. There was close racing in the lOOc.c. stock events. Places swapped regularly and in one of the three heats there was a dead heat. The 150c.c. open class was dominated by three Christchurch drivers with John Hamilton eventually winning the title. Another Christchurch driver, Doug Drake won the . 150c.c. Grand Prix. Yesterday was the annual test match between. the North and South Islands and the South Island won for the first time in five years. The South, after trailing in the first three heats, slowly moved ahead and after the final race had 787 points to the North Island s 711. Results:— Inter-island lOOc.c. stock.—M.
