Weightlifting record
PA Timaru The South Island weightlifting championships, held at Waimate ] over the week-end, saw Robert | Ing, of Christchurch, twice break j the record for the snatch. ' j His first lift was 132.5 kilos, and this bettered the old record of 127 kilos. In his third lift he boosted the record to 135 kilos. * A. Williams, of Canterbury,- ( qualified for the junior nationals to be held in Nelson in August, and a fellow Canterbury lifter, lan Blance, managed to equal the record of 85 kilos in the snatch.
In the 52-kilo class the event was won by B. Stenton, of Southland, with L. Attrill, of Canterbury, second. In the 56-kilo class, P. Cooper, ’ of Canterbury was first. Other results: 60-kilo class: A. de Croos (Southland), 1; 67.5-kilo class: J. Wangford (Canterbury), 1; 75-kilo class: S. Ahkuoi (Southland), 1; 82.5-kilo class, R. Sutherland (Southland). 1; kilo class: F. Ahkuoi (Canterbury). 1: 100-kilo class: R. Ing (Canterbury), 1.
