Riots in Brixton
Sir, — A. C. Buck’s letter (April 22) condoning repatriation is two too many. Would they countenance a demand by the Maoris for the repatriation of all Europeans from New Zealand which could certainly be justified and even legal from a Maori standpoint? I have lived in Britain and discussed this problem with many Britons. Apart from the peabrained uncivilised Briton, there are not many who see such idiotic and simplistic solutions to their problems. In fact, many admit that the vast majority of immigrants have displayed remarkable enterprise, skills and hard work and are net contributors to the G.N.P. One root cause of the problem they see as the laziness, lack of enterprise and desire to work of a large number of the young Britons themselves — which, in fact, necessitated the import of migrant labour in the late 50s/ early ,60s in. the first place. A little rational thought is in order. — Yours, etc., NAVEEN K. CHOPRA April 22, 1981
