Hilarious Guest too good
Hilarious Guest confirmed favouritism for the Timaru Nursery Stakes on Saturday when she humbled her rivals in the Cathedral Stakes at Addington Raceway last evening. The filly by Hilarious Way had not raced since January 14, but she was a dominating favourite paying $2.45 for a win. She bounded at the start, but Peter Jones soon had her settled and she accelerated quickly into a handy position. She waited on the leaders until the straight entrance and then quickly mastered the pacemaker, Turbine. At the end she was easing right down with a lead of two
lengths and a half. Precocious Guy made an impressive debut right in line with his recent efforts at official trials when he took second two lengths in front of Tebaldi, with Turbine tiring another length back. Beaufighter made up ground for fifth. Precocious Guy, a highly promising young pacer, was among the horses eliminated from the Timaru Nursery Stakes on Saturday. This was done at the expense of a number of horses with extremely weak form backgrounds, a most unfortunate happening in. a race carrying such a rich stake. This emphasises the attitude of clubs to the directive, from the Trotting Conference that regard must be taken of form at official trials when fields are being selected. It also strengthens claims that selections for < such races should be taken out of the hands of clubs.
