Deserved win for Triarmbro

Triarmbro, 'after being towards the rear of the field starting the last 1000 m, broke through for a deserved win in the Takahe Handicap at Addington last evening. Kiltie Boy made ground for second, ahead of Smart Aleck, Smith and Jones coming fast for fourth after an early break. Minstra, another to make an early lapse, showed speed to head the others.

The Westport-owned and trained McKenna led throughout the Improvers’ Handicap. He was hard pressed near the end by the filly, Out to Dream, which came strongly along the rails, but he lasted to win by a nose.

Shoreline came on well for third, shading Late Arrival and Verona. The Nelson-owned and trained McShane advanced to within one win of open company when he held out a s'ti .. ig challenge from the Southland trotter, Regal Flyer, by a head in the Avon Handicap. About Now was only a head away third, well clear of Most Likely Fella, which was late securing a run along the rails.

Supporters of the two favourites had little to rejoice about, Para’s Star and Senator Lea both breaking at the Start.
