Capitalism and socialism
Sir, — This Universe is governed by natural laws. If one abides by these universal laws then one will succeed in all facets of life; conversely if one transgresses them one will fail. A society is also bound by these laws. In our confusion we have become unable to differentiate universal laws from man-made laws and we seem to now think that if the majority votes it so we can change any laws universal or otherwise. One important universal law that is being heavily violated throughout the world is that an individual having his own unique goals and purposes must, to achieve these, be a free agent. Communism, socialism, and all - other forms of totalitarianism deny this law and the present state of the world attests to the results of such folly. Capitalism, as a philosophy, is the only system which maintains the individual’s freedom of choice as paramount. — Yours, etc., STEPHEN RUSSELL. October 23, 1980.
