Rescue at Estuary bar
Sir, — We saw this mag= nificently well co-ordinated rescue by the Sumner Life Boat Institution on Sunday, and we feel that this voluntary organisation deserves the highest praise, as does the action of the Sumner Surf Club’s member who, on his surf ski, reached the four people in the very turbulent water just before the Aid II jet boat’s arrival. The prompt action of the man on Cave Rock, who saw the runabout disintegrate and ran down to sound the alarm, was most commendable. From the time the siren sounded it was only 10 minutes before the people were lifted from the sea. We feel that these dedicated Sumner volunteers should know that, of the many people who witnessed this dramatic rescue, two at least are indeed proud of them. — Yours, etc ■ ALAN AND AMY WILSON.
