Springbok tour
Sir, — In view of the correspondence it is obvious that unless* the pro-tour supporters realise the real purpose of apartheid, this controversial issue could go on ad ■ infinitum. A token good will by the South African Government, incorporating a few blacks into a white rugby team, is merely scratching the surface of righting the inhuman wrongs of racial inequality. The inconsiderateness shown to- 1 wards the African “underdog” by some correspondents brings to mind a similar display of attitude towards the .problem of exploitational oppression of another race by whites. In Indonesia, before that country’s independence, remarks were uttered such as, and I quote: “Any wonder we’re losing our colonies if you idiots are giving these ‘black b . . . s’ cigarettes and other goodies” (!). Such inane remarks for showing a little Christian charity, sickened me with disgust. Apartheid defies all Christian and human principles. Only time will prove these pro-apar-theid/tour supporters wrong in their present thinking. — Yours, etc., J. P. STUART, September 22, 1980.
