Racecourse charges

Sir, — It was stated (“The Press,” September 22) that the increase in admission charges at the Methven Trotting Club meeting from $1 to $2 had no effect on the size of the crowd at the meeting. I would suggest that most people on the course were unaware of the 100 per cent increase in admission charges until .they arrived at the turnstiles.

There was no public notification that such an increase was to occur. As a regular patron of the Methven Trotting Club I can see no justification for such an increase as the public amenities at the course are only the bare minimum. No doubt the action of the Methven' club will set a precedent for similar increases at all other racecourses. In view of the excellent facilities available at- Addington, an increase there would be justified and acceptable. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Addington’s country cousins, — Yours, etc., I. K. MORRISON. September 22, 1980.
