this month, the C s -.rt had heard that Durbridge had burst into- a room at the massage parlour where his de facto wife was, giving Mr. Gallagher a. massage, After trading blows with him, Durbridge, had taken out a knifea 'd ' threatened to castrate him. Mr Gallagher had suffered knife wounds to the thighs, lower leg, and buttocks. His Honour said that he could not accept Durbridge’s lawyer’s submis-
slon for a conununitybased sentence. It was Durbridge’s eighth conviction for violence. However. said his Honour, he would take into -account Durbridge’s family circumstances and the jury’s rider for leniency. The term of imprisonment was. shorter than was usual for a man with such a record.
Durbridge had been fortunate that the injuries had caused ho permanent disability, his Honour said.
