Skating rink
Sir, — I visit the ice-skati rink several times a week, and I must say how pleased I am with the behaviour of the young people there. The rink is one of the most firmly controlled public places in the city. The manager and his staff are respected by the young skaters, and a happy atmosphere prevails. Police and traffic officers look in frequently, and people of all age groups use the rink with confidence. Even the car park is supervised. No doubt the rink does produce additional traffic and resultant noise in the vicinity. If I bought a house near a sports facility I would expect this. However* my observation is that the rink patrons are generally quiet and considerate. They are there for the skating which they have paid for and which they take seriously. — Yours, etc., RAY SHAVE.
