Counties triumph

PA Tauranga Counties beat Bay of Plenty, 34-15, in the national

first division rugby match at Tuaranga on Saturday.

Counties led 11-6 at halftime, the turning point coming just after the break when a little kick from Eddie Stokes went straight into Bruce Robertson’s hands. Robertson scored untouched and Bay’s hopes of a win disappeared. Counties scored six tries, two each by the No. 8, Alan Dawson, and the wing, Paul Penney, and one each to Robertson and Warren Mac Lean. Brett Codlin kicked two conversions and two penalties. Bay of Plenty’s star, because of the excellence of his goal kicking was the fullback, Greg Rowlands, who kicked four penalties and a dropped goal.
