Beer and spirits to rise
PA Wellington Increased prices for beer and spirits will apply on August 18, the Department of Trade and Industry announced yesterday. Jugs of beer will rise 3c to $1.26 and flagons will rise 6c to $2.54.
The price of a glass of beer will rise 1c except for 200 ml and 225 ml glasses which will be unchanged. Nips of spirits, except for New Zealand whisky, square gin and Ron Barbado, will increase Ic.
Large bottles of beer will also cost more. An extra 4c has been applied to 745 ml bottles sold in bars; those sold in bottle stores will be 6c dearer. The extra 2c in bottle stores will reflect an increase in the refundable bottle deposit from 3c to sc. The department said the price rises were necessary because of wage and salary increases in breweries and hotels since the Budget (July The revised price list announced by the department is:

The extra 2c tn bottle stores refleets an increase in the deposit on the bottle which, with the existing deposit of 3c, is fully refundable.
