Railway uniform change
PA Wellington Watch out for shunters in “beanie” hats. The blue-and-white-striped knitted tops are part of a new uniform the Railways will introduce later this year because the present ones, according to a staff bulletin, are “out of touch with what is expected of a large and progressive undertaking.” Guards will wear “kingfisher blue,” and freighthandling steff will be given deep-brown overalls and dust coats with light brown facings most suitable for the work which the employees do.”
