Best average so far for Murray Greys

This year’s national Murray Grey cattle sale held at Palmerston North achieved the best average for any national sale yet held.

According to a supplied report there was a total clearance at auction of 36 bulls for an average of $4350. The top price of the sale — $10,500 — went to the Glendowns stud of A. R. asd P. J. Leslie, of Cave, in South Canterbury, for two-year-old Glendowns Harlequin, which has never been beaten in his age group at an agricultural and pastoral show. He is by the 1976 national sale champion, Newfields Maximilian, which Mr Leslie bought at that sale for $9OOO. The purchaser

of Glendowns Harlequin was J. A. Pittar, of Gisborne. The reserve champion in the show held in conjunction with the sale, two-year-old Glencoe Governor from the Glencoe stud at Marton, went to C. C. Bremmer, of Dannevirke, for $9200. The champion, Rawhiti Kiwi Kan. which is slightly over two years old, from Rawhiti Farm, Waipukurau, was sold to J Cooper, of Masterton, for $B5OO Among the higher price sales was that for a rising three-year-old, Barrosa Moonlight, from Mrs A. P. Grigg, of Mount Somers, at $6OOO to A. R. Froude and I. C. Swale, of Southland. Three junior females in the 18 to 30 months age group sold from $l6OO to $2600.
