New head appointed at Cashmere

Mr John D. Murdoch has been appointed headmaster of Cashmere High School for 1981. He will succeed Mr R. A. Chapman, who has held the position since 1974. Mr Murdoch began teaching science and mathematics at the school in 1957. In 1962 he moved to Methven, where he taught at the local district high school, but he returned to his old school in 1964 where, since 1969, he has been deputy head. He received a Woolf Fischer scholarship in 1966, and attended a summer school in chemistry at the University of New South Wales. He spent 1977 on a fellowship at the Institute of Education in London. At various times Mr Murdoch has been a member of the Christchurch Teachers’ College council and the University Entrance Board. He is at present a member of the School Certificate Education Board.

This year he has been seconded by the Education Department as a secondary inspector. Mr Murdoch, aged 47, is married, with three children.
