Exam. help for deaf
Special provisions will be made this year for School Certificate candi-
dates who are deaf or who have specific learning disabilities. Special conditions for these examination candi-
dates have been approved by the Minister of Education (Mr Wellington) after evaluation by the School Certificate Examination Board of last year’s trial SCHEME. Deaf candidates will be considered in two groups: the profoundly deaf and the partly deaf. Partly deaf candidates may be allowed an extra
30 minutes of examination time, or the use of Roget’s Thesaurus or both. Candidates with specific learning disabilities may be permitted to use a reader or writer, or both, in the examination. Where special conditions have been approved the School Certificate and result slip of the candidates will be endorsed with details of the nature of the assistance. Secondary school principals will soon be told of the procedures for applications to the Education Department for special assistance for candidates.
