New ambassador
Wellington reporter The new Indonesian Ambassador to New Zealand, Major-General Sukanto Sajidiman, will arrive in Wellington on Friday. General Sajidiman replaices Mr R. Mochtan, who left New Zealand nine months ago. He will present his credentials to the GovernorGeneral <Sir- Keith Holyoake) on May 13. General Sajidiman will also be accredited to Fiji and Samoa.
The Indonesian Embassy said yesterday that during his three-year term General Sajidiman would seek to increase trade between New Zealand and Indonesia and improve “friendly political relations.’’
General Sajidiman, who is 53, trained at the military academy in Indonesia, and holds bachelor degrees in law and economics from the Universities of Indonesia and Jakarta. He was a military judge before he was appointed trade representative to the Indonesian Embassy in Moscow with the rank of Minister-councillor. He has been direttorgeneral of sports with the Indonesian Department of Education and Culture, and consul-general in South Korea.
Before his appointment to New Zealand he was head of the State Oil Pertamina division, and the foreign contractors’ co-ordinating body. General Sajidiman is married, with seven children.
