Chemicals leakage
Part of the Waltham railway yards was cleared yesterday morning after highly toxic and potentially explosive chemicals leaked from their containers.
About 12 litres of the liquid, a mixture of methanol and toluene was found to have leaked from glass carboys at the yards just before 10 a.m.
The mixture could be very
dangerous under certain conditions, a Fire Service spokesman said. Breathing apparatus and protective suits were worn by the firemen, who used sawdust' to mop up the spillage.
No Railways Department employees had suffered any ill effects from'the spillage', a spokesman said.
