BOB SCHUMACHER
The biggest upset .in the feature race at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club this season occurred in the Tanqueray Laurels for bitches at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening. .
Silent Illusion, an 18- * month fawn bitch by Song of Wonder-Gredakada, which raced boldly in the heats L last Monday, was surprisingly neglected in the betting, starting the rank outsider of the eight runners. After racing in third place for the first 450 m, Silent Illusion dashed through on the rails at, the top of the straight arid won going away by / four lengths. Smuggler’s/ Lass, the early pacemaker, faded to sixth. Diamond Edge,- second throughout, retained that placing to the finish, with Serene Silk, the odds-on favourite, coming, late for third. Serene Silk was giving the first trio a good. start down the back straight and went wide to challenge on the home; turn. But she changed stride at that point and the two lengths she lost put paid to her chances. The second favourite, Parport Hap, was in some discomfort some distance from home and tailed right off to finish a lonely last. Silent Illusion had only $45 invested on her for a' win and $56 for a place compared with Serene Silk’s $867 for a win and Parport Hap’s $789. The winner paid $4O for a win and just on $l2 for a place. CHANCERY STAKES $100; C 3; 350 m. 2/1 TINAKORI MOON (2) J. duggan’s wh blk b by Old Glory Boy—Smooth Swami; O.
