Kaiapoi mill proposal
The Government would give “favourable. consideration!” to granting an import licence for machinery for the proposed new woollen mill at Kaiapoi, the Associate Minister of Finance (Mr Quigley) told Kaiapoi resi- . dents last evening. The Government was aware that the project would be geared almost entirely to exports. However, the recently formed company, Rahnex Wools, Ltd, should recognise that the Government had invited proposals for rationalising the textile industry, particularly spinning and weaving. Rahnex Wools hopes to rent part of the old Kaiapoi woollen mill for fingering yarn production if the Kaiapoi Borough Council succeeds in buying the mill from Mosgiel, Ltd. The chairman of the company’s interim board of directors (Mr D. S. McKenzie) said that if the old mill was not available Rahnex might get its own building.
