N.Z. policy on Iran

Sir, — Concerning Charles Lovecroft’s letter' (April 14) in which he states, “I cannot see why Carter has to drag the rest of the world into a matter which has been his own gross mistake.” I would be anxious to. know how President Carter is responsible for the hostage crisis. Giving in to the Iranian students, as Mr Lovecroft suggested, would result in further similar outbursts and more innocent people being hurt. Even with the new leadership of Ayatollah Khomeiny, the Iranians spend vast amounts of time protesting in the streets in a fascist manner. If the Iranians would make hope for the future and forget about the past both Iran and the rest of the world would benefit. — Yours, etc., NICK SMITH. April 14, 1980.
