Press agency stands by cricket report

The international press) agency, Agence France) Presse, stands: by a report from New Zealand concerning the ' West Indian cricket team manager, Mr Willy Rodriquez. The report was included in coverage of aspects of the West Indians’ tour of New Zealand, and was published in “The Times’’ on March 7. Mr John Grant, managingeditor of “The Times, said that a . report that Mr Rodriguez had filed a libel
action against his newspaper| for 545,000 was not true. He said that because of | legal considerations he could) not discuss the matter further, but would possibly be in a position to do so when he had completed his own inquiries. An A.F.P. spokesman said that Mr Rodriguez had apparently’ got in touch with “The Times” over the report, j The agency’s report had been i filed from New Zealand by a cricket writer who was also editor of a cricketing magazine.
