Baritone to return
NZPA London The New’ Zealand-born baritone. Barry Mora, nowliving in West Germany, will return in July to sing in Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, and Dunedin. He will give performances of Mahler’s, eighth symphony and recitals with Michael Houstoun. Mr Mora left New Zealand in 1975 and since then has established a fin# reputation in Europe. After studying for a year in London with Ottakar Kraus and the New Zea-: lander, John Matheson, Mr Mora joined the theatre,
Im Revier, in Gelsenkirchen, West Germany, on a four-year contract. After his New’ Zealand tour, Mr Mora will begin a two-year contract with the Frankfurt City Opera, one of Germany’s most important houses. Among the roles he will sing are Di Luna in. Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” and the speaker in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
Mr Mora has appeared as guest singer with the Frankfurt opera and was hailed by critics throughout the world after his debut there last year. He
sang Tamare in Schreker’s “Die Gezeichneten.” An important step in Mr Mora’s international singing career will come later this year when he will make his debut with the Royal Opera at Covent Garden in September. He will sing on the opening night in Wagner’s “The Ring of Nibelung,” in which a fellow’ New Zealander, Donald Mclntyre, will sig his familiar role of Wotan. ’ , : .
