Music in art gallery
Threepenny Folly, a group of musicians and singers specialising in traditional English folk music, is working with the Robert McDougall Art Gallery this summer.
The group took part in the Kampuchean Benefit Concert held at the Christchurch Town Hall before Christmas. It will launch its work with the gallery for 1980 with a concert at the gallery on January 6 at 3 p.m. During the school holidays Threepenny Folly will present children’s programmes in the gallery at 10.30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In fine weather some of' the performances will be held out of doors.
The programmes include “The Music Box,” which covers the historical development of music, and “The Popplesnitch,” a Lithuanian folk tale. There will also .be
a special children’s folk concert. Details of the programme will be posted on the gallery noticeboard. The group is working as part of the McDougall gallery’s outreach programme, which aims to bring the gallery into closer contact with the community. Threepenny Folly will perform in hospitals, old people’s homes, and
in public places such as the Botanic Gardens, on the banks of the Avon River, and in Cathedral Square. Visits to factories and holiday spots are also planned. At the end of January, Threepenny Folly will represent the McDougall gallery at the Festival of Plentitude at Charleston, on the West Coast.
