Human Rights Commission

Sir, —At the Rights of the Child and Law Conference, organised by the Human Rights Commission, I watched with amazement how some people are more equal than others. While participation of conference members was kept minimal, a feminist crusader for the rights of children encroached upon the rights of an adult; and a female chairperson discriminated against an inspector of police in favour of a female speaker. Although I voiced my concern publicly, no action was taken. This commission has succeeded in forcing an Auck-

land employment agency to change the name that it used for 13 years, at big financial expense. The Human Rights Commission appears to enjoy police state powers in a supposedly democratic country. This bureaucratic monster should be stopped before it devours us. What a waste of taxpayers’ dollars. — Yours, etc., (Mrs) M. OOMEN, Eketahuna. November 27, 1979.
