Obscenity
Sir, —Re the Court report of December 1: obscenity is obscenity regardless of how often it is used by the media. That use is not a decision of the New Zealand public who have had it inflicted on them. We are ashamed to know that a young woman police officer was so abused in the lawful execution of her duties. Are we governed by law or what magistrates believe the public are prepared to tolerate? —Yours, etc., J. NIHONIHO, H. NIHONIHO. December 2, 1979. [A magistrate is required to interpret the law on the basis of public attitudes and the circumstances. —Editor]
