Complaint on job preferment
PA Wellington The Human Rights Commission believes some employers may advertise for staff in accordance with the Human Rights Commission Act, 1977, and then breach the act when choosing their staff.
The act forbids employers to advertise jobs discriminating or appearing to discriminate on the grounds of sex, marital status, race or religion.
The commission has received a complaint from a young Wellington man who answered an advertisement for a “managermanageress” and was told the Lower Hut firm concerned would “prefer a female.” The commission is investigating the man’s complaint.
