Taxi meter check
Sir, —I had my taxi meter altered and checked by a meter technician: charge $2. To have this alteration checked by the Ministry of Transport: charge $9. Can the M.O.T. be charged with profiteering?—Yours, etc., L. GIMBLET. April 20, 1979. [Mr A. J. Calder, regional superintendent, automotive surveying, for the Ministry of Transport in Christchurch, replies: “As the Ministry of Transport has only charged the prescribed fee of $9.00 for checking of the taxi meter it is not profiteering; the $2 charge is for work carried out by a service agent and is not related to the Ministry of Transport charges.”]
