Abortion policy

Sir, — Kathleen Quinlivan, (May 7), like some previous correspondents, is showing herself to be totally irresponsible in her comments on menstrual extraction and repeal of the abor-

tion laws in New Zealand. The facts are that menstrual extraction is a highly dangerous technique and therefore should never have been advocated by one of our politicians. Women who travel to Australia for their abortions do so against the New Zealand and Australian laws. And calling for repeal of our abortion laws is to give us a situation of no laws at all regarding abortion. It is perfectly clear that pro-abor-tionists will not be happy until there are no laws, no children, and no quality of life whatever. — Yours, etc., BARBARA LEGGETT. May 7, 1979.
