Boy dies in camp tragedy
PA Dunedin A boy aged six, died and two persons were taken to hospital after a suspected gas poisoning in a caravan at a motor camp near Dunedin yesterday. Two ambulances were called to the camping ground early yesterday afternoon when two adults and the child were discovered unconscious in the caravan.
The boy was taken to Milton, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor, and the adults were taken to the Dunedin Hospital.
A man was treated and discharged, but later taken back to the hospital and admitted, although his condition was not available.
The boy’s mother was admitted to hospital. The authorities gave her condition last evening as satisfactory.
Detective Senior-Sergeant J. G. Howell, of Dunedin, said the police had “virtually eliminated” the possibility of foul play and were not looking for any other person in connection with the death.
