Northern gold rush
PA Napier Lady Luck’s recent lottery smiles in Hawke’s Bay have apparently not gone unnoticed elsewhere in New Zealand.
Lottery hopefuls from as far away as Invercargill, Christchurch, and Whangarei have been sending money to Hawke’s Bay sellers in the hope of cashing in on the province’s successes. “We usually get two or three who write in from other centres,” said one Golden Kiwi ticket seller. “But since our last run of luck we are being swamped with applications from all over the country in both the $1 and $lO lotteries,” he said. The Hawke’s Bay share of the booty since August 7 has been more than $5.5M.
There have been two $500,00 0 wins, three $lOO,OOO prizes, and three $60,000 Golden Kiwi successes —■ not to mention a host of other prizes. “With that sort of record, outsiders must surely think Lady Luck lives in Hawke’s Bay,” the ticket seller said.
