Rural sewer sought
The Waimairi County 1 Council will press the < Christchurch Drainage Board i for a reticulated sewer ex- t tension outside the northwest "urban fence.” I The board has already ( said it is not its normal pol- 1 icy to provide sewerage ser- 1 vices in areas zoned rural, 1 but has asked the council to define the degree of health I risk. 1 The county’s chief health t inspector, Mr G. F. Manton, i told the council that a “real f
health risk exists which could become a disease situation, particularly during the winter.” The properties affected are 313 to 317 Wooldridge Road, 607 to 639 and 576 to 598 Harewood Road, 387 to 411 Sawyers Arms Road, and 127 to 167 Prestons Road. Most had septic tanks, Mr Manton said, but these malfunctioned because of inadequate depth of permeable soil, and were susceptible to flooding.
