Power up again in April
Municipal Electricity Department consumers are in for another 4.5 per cent rise in their power bills next April.
The rise will be similar to the one last year, to cover the extra cost of buying bulk power from the Electricity Division. A maximum 5 per cent power bill rise is allowed.
The bulk power cost is
more than 80 per cent of the department’s expenditure, so it must be passed on to consumers. Total electricity sales next financial year, after the rise, are expected to be almost $36.2M.
The City Council public utilities committee has said the new rise should start on April 1.
