Socialism

Sir, — M. Creel says that socialism exists as a transition phase to communism in those countries that are now governed by communist parties. Why exclude China? It really all depends on which school of thought you belong to whether you accept that socialism gives way to communism, or that they are in fact synonymous terms. The Trotskyists refer

to those states mentioned as State-capitalist States; so do others, including our lot. “Socialism must come about simultaneously world-wide.” (?) That great bunkum artist and public relations expert, Mao Tse-Tung once said, I believe, “A spark can start a prairie fire.” The fact that capitalism is unevenly developed in different countries does not matter, for when the overwhelming working masses finally realise that they run society from top to bottom, but do not own and control it, and are therefore poor, the fun will start. — Yours, etc.,
