One cent better off?
Sir, — In “The Press” of October 11, on page 5, McKenzies advertised 40 items for sale, and I counted 94 large and small figure 9s included in the marked prices, presumably to convince uneducated customers that (e.g.) $9.99c is much cheaper than slo.ooc. This waste of printing ink went out in Britain before the last war when one shilling and eleven pence three farthings gave way to two shillings, and so on. Surely it is time the 1 cent piece, became a collector's piece and that prices were marked more intelligently. — Yours, etc., WILL TAYLOR. October 19, 1978.
