Drowning at river mouth
Greymouth reporter A man was drowned at the mouth of the Mahitaki River in the Bruce Bay area of South Westland bn Thursday when the dinghy he was in capsized. He was Gregory Bernard Stratford, aged 24, single, of Hokitika, whose parents live at Hamilton. Mr Stratford, an employee of the Department of Lands and Survey, was believed to have been making tide measurements. His body was found by a search party yesterday morning two miles south of the river mouth. The search was mounted by the Haast ■and Whataroa police after a woman reported that a man had been seen going out to sea on Thursday morning while trying to cross the river.
