Care of aged

Sir, —Profound comments are made by Mrs H. M. Morrow (June 29) on the way in which our community is heading towards a crisis in the not too distant future if warnings go unheeded. With abortions, contraception, homosexuals, etc., our population will rapidly decline, leaving many elderly folk with few younger members of society to provide either institutional or home care for invalids or aged persons. Already there are signs of disinclination on the part of families to assist their elderly relatives to continue in their own homes and remain independent as long as possible. Our young people would undoubtedly respond if they were educated to realise that one day they would be elderly and dependent to some degree on their families or the community in general. — Yours, L. E. REID. June 30, 1978.
