Leading doctor jailed

A leading French doctor i has been jailed for 18 years [by a court in Toulouse for (inciting the murder of a journalist who was investigating his personal affairs. Claude Birague. a 58-year-old ear, nose and throat specialist, the honorary consul for Monaco and a former Gaullist militant, had pleaded not guilty to complicity in the murder of Rene Trouve, local correspondent for the sensationalisi weekly magazine, "Le Meilleur.” He had told the Court he simply wanted to “teach him a lesson.’’ Christian Portay, a 28-year-old former sales representative, was jailed for 12 years. Portay. shot Trouve in the head outside his office. ] Jose Picart. an unemployed! 28-vear-o!d. was jailed fori eight years for complicity. Portav told the Court he had been “psychologically I conditioned’" by the doctor, [who had described Trouve. as la blackmailer and war-time collaborator,
