Repeal of C.S. and A. Act
Sir, — What a hide has the Minister of Social Welfare (Mr Walker) to wonder what sort of an “uninformed mess” a referendum on the abortion legislation would be. This description is best suited to the unworkable legislation itself. ’ He has made these remarks in response to democratic opposition to an oppressive and discriminatory law (the wealthy are better able to get an abortion in Australia) which was rushed through Parliament late at night. The debate in public has been demonstrably better informed and rational than was the debate in Parliament. As to the pressure tactics that Mr Walker decries, there is considerable irony in’ shedding his tears to a group which must be
well placed as an anti-abor-tion pressure group. — Yours, etc., M. R. SCOTT. April 10, 1978.
