Torre leads chess
PA Wellinfton The Filipino grand master, Eugene Torre, leads the Burroughs chess tournament being played in Wellington with four points and a half out of a maximum six, after beating fellow countryman, Rico Mascarinas, yesterday. His closest challengers, Miguel Quinteros (Argentina) and Murray Chandler both had adjourned games yesterday.
The Iranian international master, Merhshad Sharif, beat Indonesia’s Jacobus Sampouw, while Rodolfo Tan Cardoso (Philippines) beat Herman Suradiradja, of Indonesia.
Adjourned games were between Ortvin Sarapu (N.Z.i and Miguel Quinteros, and the allNew Zealand match between Chandler and Richard Sutton. In another all-New Zealand game. Vernon Small (Canterbury) and Ewen Green played a draw.
