Traffic from rugby league matches
Sir, — I heard with dismay that a very zealous traffic officer had a field day (night) during last evening’s rugby league match at the Show Grounds. Manv patrons from the north (Kaiapoi) and Papanui parked illegally in a back street leading to the ground’s northern entrance in Whiteleigh Avenue. If they use the parking facilities provided by the league — and there is plenty — it takes a long time to leave the ground, because of the delay at the lights at the corner of Lincoln Road and Jerrold Street. The officer would be doing more to alleviate a problem if he, or someone else, did some point duty at this intersection as they do for the races and show. — Yours, W. A. WHITEHEAD. April 6, 1978.
