When Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) moved that the House convene this afternoon at the conclusion of a Parliamentary luncheon for the Speaker of the Korean Assembly and not at the usual time of 2.30 p.m. Five annual reports were tabled. They were the reports of the Department of Maori Affairs, the Public Trust Office, the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute, the National Provident Fund Board, and the return of securities held by Government departments. Members gave, notice of seven notices of motion. The Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Templeton) presented a petition of the Association of Social Workers asking that the Contraception, Sterilisation, .nd Abortion Bill be referred to a select committee.

Ministers answered 17 questions and two urgent questions. Eight acts were accorded the Royal Assent — the Civil List Amendment Act, the Government Life Insurance Amendment Act, the National Housing Commission Amendment Act, the Securities Transfer Act, the Trustee Amendment Act, the Legislature Amendment Act, the Trustee Savings Banks Amendment Act, and the Private Savings Banks Amendment Act.

The House then devoted itself to the Estimates debate until the 5.30 p.m. dinner adjournment.

When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. it debated the Estimates of the State Insurance Office and the Government Insurance Office.

The debate was interrupted by the 10.30 p.m. adjournment.
