Ben Lander out of National
Ben Lander was sore after he worked at Matamata yesterday and is out of the Grand National Steeplechase. Norman Crawford, the trainer of Ben Lander, planned to fly south with his steeplechaser tomorrow.
Now that Ben Lander is amiss Crawford will leave the hurdler, Peter Rose, at home also. Peter Rose was a form runner for the Trial Hurdles on the opening day of the Grand National meeting. A chartered flight fron the North Island yesterday brought Inky’s Gold, Purdo.
Little Rebel, Oh Brother, Azenui, and Koiro Scott for engagements in major races at the meeting. Inky’s Gold is the Winter Cup top-weight, Purdo, Little Rebel, and Oh Brother are Grand National contenders, and Koiro Scott will run in the major hurdle races at the meeting. The only rider announced for yesterday’s arrivals was S. Autridge, who will handle Inky’s Gold, the Winter Cup top-weight. Another flight today will oring Ripbang, Flash Affair, Divine Cloud, Caruba, and Captain General south.
